Hi, I’m David.
For over 20 years, I’ve been a Producer, Writer, and Director of TV, streaming, digital and social content. Most of my work has been at ESPN where I created a wide variety of sports commercials, documentaries/features and promos.
Previously, I produced a weekly Asian sports magazine show – based in Hong Kong & Singapore. That experience was monumental in learning the ropes of feature production. I also filled up a passport book or two!
These days, I’m creating content for a gamut of clients… from tech companies to country music channels; media platforms to financial service firms. I still dabble in plenty of sports.

Hasta La Vista, Baby
In this co-branded movie promotion, we paired Terminator stars Arnold Schwarzenegger and Linda Hamilton with NBA stars Kawhi Leonard and Paul George. In addition to producing this spot, I also negotiated Kawhi's appearance with his reps. On set, the rendezvous of actors and athletes was all laughs and the final product went viral across social media and sports TV.
Campus Legends Return
AT&T set out to to leverage their presenting sponsorship of the College Football Playoff by driving viewers to their on-demand platform. To meet the moment, I pitched and ultimately produced a 1-hour documentary on 4 legendary college players visiting their former teams, as they prepared for the CFP semi-finals. This production would be my greatest challenge and accomplishment in 19+ years at ESPN.
Complaining is Wasted Breath
As part of their US Olympic team sponsorship, Budweiser wanted a digital series showcasing the backstories of American athletes. Amongst the most jaw-dropping and inspiring profiles we did was on Melissa Stockwell, who went from serving in in Iraq to swimming in the Paralympics, with a prosthetic leg. This production was a poignant reminder that complaining about life’s misfortunes is all relative.
The Treadmill Trot
ESPN's "This is SportsCenter" campaign is iconic for its humor, simplicity, and participation of top-flight athletes. For this Aaron Judge spot, our production team relied on the unspoken word — to be both witty and contextually relevant. The only thing I didn't like about this shoot was having to watch others on the treadmill — while I produced - and snacked.
The Journey
When NBA legend Tracy McGrady was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame, it was an apropos time for him to reflect on his trials and tribulations. With the blessing of partner Samsung, I hired Tracy to document his multi-part story. "The Journey" aired on ABC during the NBA Finals. Samsung was an amazing partner and only asked for minimal brand integration, so Tracy's story could be the focal point. A personal thrill was working with former Knicks coach and ESPN announcer Jeff Van Gundy. JVG was equal parts raw, sanguine, and just fun to be around — as was his former player, Tracy.
Two Words - Denzel Washington
Two words - Denzel Washington. That summed up the dominant thought as we scripted the acting legend and his film director Antoine Fuqua auditioning NBA stars for the 2nd sequel of The Equalizer. Definitely a pinch-yourself-moment kind of shoot!
Garrett Booker’s Extraordinary Story
In Garrett Booker, we met a young man whose dedication to art is only equaled by his family's commitment to education. This feature story was part of Dr. Pepper's annual tuition giveaway that has made college affordable for many in need.
Global Exploration of Teamwork
"Project Teamwork" was an award-winning ESPN branded content digital series in partnership with Samsung. I produced and directed 12 episodes on how world-class athletes utilize “teamwork" with Samsung Galaxy smartphones. Filmed in Jamaica, Netherlands, Barcelona, Morocco and Brazil, "Project Teamwork" embodied the essence of global team sports.
The Intersection of Sports and Tech
When technology and sports meet — Intel and ESPN partnered together on an ambitious campaign involving the world's greatest snowboarders donning a wallet size device that measures seemingly every physical statistic under the (Aspen) sun.
Two Athletes, One Talker
Kenny Mayne was the funniest talent at ESPN - by a country mile. He never tried to turn on the humor - it just came out, in droves. So when New Balance asked for an ESPN announcer to promote their new Fresh Foam shoe, we gave Kenny the following directive - "just be you". Alongside Dustin Pedroia and Jenny Simpson, Kenny nailed the off-beat humor and left a very entertained client and production team laughing out loud... retake!
The Conversation
It's not every day that a client tells you they'll deliver Tom Brady for a day of filming. Add in then up-and-coming golf phenom Jordan Spieth, who coached the NFL legend on his swing, while TB12 imparted his own words of wisdom. A dream-like scenario — until that is, an incredibly rare So. Cali storm landed on us just as we started shooting. We waited... and waited... and ultimately crammed a day of filming into 2 sunny hours. It was surreal and fun - and totally nerve-wracking!
Cruzing in London
When Jaguar wanted to make its latest flashy car more relatable to the American market, they turned to ESPN and my production team to create a multi-part series. Before long, we were zipping through London with Victor Cruz and Jo Ankier talking sports and cultural differences between Americans and Brits. A two-day shoot resulted in 3 episodes on SportsCenter… and heightened awareness of driving on the right side of the road.
What It’s Like To Raise a Hall of Famer
Marketing execs at major brands often talk of appealing to parents with emotive sports-themed content. In response, I created and launched an editorial series called "Just Dad" and "Just Mom" that focused on the perspective of a parent raising their young athlete. Steph Curry's dad, Dell, was a gracious and willing participant in this proactive feature. The concept was eventually sold to Nissan.
New York City, 1977
The "Bronx is Burning" was an 8-part series on ESPN that fictionalized the 1977 Yankees amidst the backdrop of a chaotic and dangerous New York City. John Turturro and Oliver Platt headlined an incredible cast. My "Behind the Scenes" production team focused on the verite elements of this well-known and thrilling story about baseball and NYC in the late 70s.
Kenny Being Kenny
Kenny Mayne was the funniest talent at ESPN - by a country mile. He never tried to turn on the humor - it just came out, in droves. So when New Balance asked for an ESPN announcer to promote their new Fresh Foam shoe, we gave Kenny the following directive - "just be you". Alongside Dustin Pedroia and Jenny Simpson, Kenny nailed the off-beat humor and left a very entertained client and production team laughing out loud... retake!
Greek Traditions
ESPN's "This is SportsCenter" campaign is iconic for its humor, simplicity, and participation of top-flight athletes. For this spot, we set out to make fun of a silly stereotype associated with NBA star Giannis Antetokounmpo's Greek heritage, while 'normalizing' him as a typical ESPN employee working at a computer. The production team purchased around 150 plates as props. By the end of the day, we found ourselves praying that some plates wouldn't actually break, so we could make it through the shoot... in one piece. Pun intended.
